Meet 24 Hour Home Care's Caregiver Gloria
24 Hour Home Care's caregiver Gloria finds joy in caring for others.
Even in her retirement years, 24 Hour Home Care Caregiver Gloria wants to help vulnerable people. Before becoming a caregiver, she worked in corporate accounting, holding positions at Coke and other Fortune 500 companies. During her career, she balanced 20 years of on-again off-again family caregiving, moving back home to provide care for her parents as each of them became ill in hospice and later passed. She also provided care for her late husband before he passed. Gloria became genuinely inspired providing care for her loved ones.
As she thinks back to her years of family caregiving, Gloria feels a deep sense of pride and purpose. This is what prompted her to embark on what she calls her “second career” in 2020 as a full-time caregiver with 24 Hour Home Care. Now, she wakes up daily feeling excited to carry out 24 Hour Home Care’s mission of “impacting people’s lives by making a difference every day.”
“Caregiving comes from a deep sense of compassion, and I want to assist others when they can’t care for themselves,” Gloria says. “Not all people can be caregivers, it is something that is inside of you. When I work, I get to help another person, which then gives me purpose and makes me feel satisfied with my own health and happiness. This has been so important for me in the season of life that I’m currently in being a mother and grandmother. I never miss work because I love going. I wake up excited to go help someone who needs me.”
Gloria has provided more than 7,000 hours of care for 36 clients since she started with 24 Hour Home Care.
“Gloria embraces courage, wisdom, and unity,” said her manager. “She always has a can-do attitude and is willing to help with urgent cases. She is positive, experienced working with our clients with cognitive impairments, and provides great guidance to families who are first-time home care recipients.”
Gloria has cared for clients until they’ve reached the end of life, and she’s also cared for people who have recovered with her help. Although this line of work can be emotionally taxing, Gloria can’t help but smile knowing she’s helping others.
“You need to not only care for clients but also help them reach the next level of what they can do for themselves,” Gloria says. “I assisted this client who came home from the hospital distraught over her colostomy bag. She’d given up on ever leaving bed. I worked with her on ways to manage it, and I got her to come back feeling human and confident! She’s since returned to her busy social schedule!”
Gloria has also made a difference by providing care to a person who formerly experienced homelessness.
“Some clients have no one, and I love helping people that would otherwise be lost,” she explains.
